― Trip Overview
Where Morocco’s wild coast, ancient fortresses and desert dunes come beautifully alive
This road trip reveals a side of Morocco few travellers ever see. From Marrakech you reach the windswept ramparts of Essaouira, follow the Atlantic coast through Imsouane and Taghazout, then climb into the Anti-Atlas, where pink villages, almond trees and fortified granaries cling to the mountainsides.
Beyond the oases of Tata, a 4×4 crossing of Lake Iriki leads to Erg Chegaga, the wildest dunes in Morocco, for a camel ride at sunset and a night under the stars. With a private driver, charming riads and every detail handled by our team, it is a true adventure with all the comfort.

Practical Information
- Day 7 : A very long day of driving. Spending an extra night in Ouarzazate or Aït Ben
Haddou allows you to split the journey in two. - Dirt Roads: Days 6 and 7 are partly traveled by 4×4 on dirt roads between Foum Zguid and Erg Chegaga.
- Desert : A small bag for the night at camp is sufficient. Cool nights from November through February.
- Anti-Atlas : The Ameln Valley is in bloom during almond blossom season in February.
- Essaouira : It’s windy here all year round, so bring a light jacket.
- Currency : Moroccan dirham (MAD). Bring cash; ATMs are scarce betweenTafraoute and Erg Chegaga.
- Amtoudi : The hike up to the Id Aïssa attic takes about 30 minutes on foot, along a rocky trail. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring water.
